This is an experimental project on the border of cinema, video-performance and contemporary theater, in which all the actors play, using also web-cameras through SKYPE and behind them the video-images of their faces appear on semitransparent screens. This video-image will be digitally manipulated and mixed with other images by VJ. The retranslation /interpretation of moving images is typical for the nowadays culture of communication. Steps on it, one of main aspects of my project is that it uses the new media as a tool: It gives to the actors another new opportunity to express theirselves, which provides to the audience more detailed and monumental picture of the emotions, which the actors perform. (Please, see the attached below video, which describes the idea about the scenography of the play, as a metaphor of a simplified labyrinth.)
The research-project is based on the novel THE HELMET OF THE HORROR by Viktor Pelevin: a famous Russian post-modern writer. The entire novel is just chats in a net, between people, who can't see each other, but somebody observes them during their discussions and the audience watches the play from same cameras as him. Pelevin uses the some psychological and quantum physics theories, which observe human models of perceiving the surrounding world as an interpretation of wives (energy flows). He also steps on the Ancient Greeks myth about the MINOTAURUS, using it as a metaphor. The outcomes of the research have to adapt this metaphor for different cultural contexts. The text of the novel is just a starting point for this research.
Prehistory: 2004 - I started such a project: I decided to put mini-camera inside the inner space of classic bronze statue, which project deals with problem "space /volume" and retransmitting a video-image. Actually, I semi realized it, making photos of the inner space of a monumental sculpture head, which I did by myself. (2011, tried to re-implement it in HERMITAGE, it failed again.) Later, 2007– In Japan, based on idea from 2005, I did a video-installation CYLINDER –a toy-train with camera makes loops around a cylinder and transmits the image on the wall of the gallery in real time . 2007 - I developed the idea and in 2008 in Porto, I realized a performance IMMIGRATION IN SUITCASE, where I played an illegal immigrant in suitcase and filming my face, which is projected on the wall of the gallery in real time. From 2008 to 2010 I did it few times in different cultural contexts. 2011- Based on these previous experiences, I realized common contemporary theater projects!
