This is complex multidisciplinary project, which unites common efforts of artists from different areas. For realization of it, I would like to collaborate with 3D animator, programmer-engineer and also theater or dance performers. Together we should create a "kick-boxing" show (In Korea it could be named Tae Kwon Do show): on the one side, two volunteers-dance-performers will simulate fight between boxers on stage behind white semitransparent screen, on which will appear their shadows. To the other side the motion-capture device will transmit their actions to application, which will forward these moves to 3D cartoon heroes (manga-robots, super-heroes or cartoon politics - typical for different cultures), visible for the audience on another big screen. In case there is no opportunity to find such motion-capture device, the image could be manipulated by VJ (in this occasion me).
This project could be realized in two ways: The first way - the "boxers" are dance-performers, who perform previously choreographed "fight". The second way: the boxers will be volunteers, who come from the audience and could choose a hero and could play as him on the big screen. The "boxers" have to be very good equipped, in order to prevent any injuries, because they will not be professionals but have to be artists in wide meaning of this word. The idea is this show to be like a computer game on second screen (as MORTAL COMBAT if you remember it) but somehow to be more interesting for everybody to participate and on the other screen as theater of shadows.
My idea is to create a kind of strange and bizarre parallel between the contemporary art and pop-culture. This is a crossing point, which deals with the increasing of the violence in nowadays society. This violence comes not every time from desperate people in big cities, where the depressive environment, lack of money and job and society bad attitude force them to lose their human faces, but sometimes it is a byproduct of the consumer's society industries.
On other hand, the attitude between the artist themselves very often is as if they are on a competition. Even sometimes, they fight each other. This project provides an opportunity for them to fight for "proving" - who is "better" artist, but without wounds and in fair-play, and in same time to make art. And (it is very important) there will be no winner, first: because as everybody knows the time is the only judge and it still doesn't say its heavy word and second: (which is also very important!) the art is not competition!
This project aims to attract and involve people to the cause of those who sympathize with art and to involve them in the process of creating art. Using the popularity of boxing matches, the project promotes contemporary art in wider circles of society, creates audience of contemporary art. However, the image on the big screen also could be seen as pure esthetic object only.
