BOTTLES FULL OF AIR / unrealized installation / 2003 - ?
a temporary installation / plactic bottles, hanged up to the bottom, because they are full of air
dimensions variable
This idea steps on an underwater installation, which I created at the Kabakum Beach in 2003. Then, I collected garbage plastic bottles from the beach and cleared their labels and "moored" them very strongly, with a fishermen string to the bottom. When they are underwater and full of air, the bottles look like silver. At the pictures here they are not entirely full to their limit, that's why they don't look like silver. The photos are just made for the purpose to illustrate the idea. If the bottles are entirely full with air (actually empty), they have big elevating force and have to be very, very strongly tied ("moored") to the bottom.
My idea is to "present" to the observers a kind of "strange and bizarre reality" by placing in opposition the function of bottles full of air and water (liquid) – when a bottle is outside water (i.e. when in the air) usually, it is full of water or other liquid and people drink it and this is its function. However, when the same bottle is placed under water, and it is full of air, it stands bottom up and we could "drink" (i.e. breath) the air, which is inside the bottle. It will be very convenient for those people, who are under water surface in that time, to have "a drink" of air if they wish or need and if there are some people underwater. In other hand, this installation could be seen as pure esthetic object only. Everybody can decide by himself. Such work could be seen under water only, but with help of handmade periscope it is possible to be seen from the coast. I know that there probably are not such platforms, but I can do such a platform from bamboo. (Please, see the illustrations!)
